Status: Full Time

We are seeking a full time research associate to support the Selective Therapies Program associated with the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and the Terry Fox Research Institute to be located at the University of Toronto in the Donnelly Centre. This project involves analyzing and managing large amounts of sequence and microarray data from functional genetic screens. The candidate will be responsible for developing a comprehensive bioinformatics platform for integrative analysis of large-scale shRNA screening data, DNA and RNA sequences from next generation sequencing technologies, and multiple genomics and proteomics/genetic network data from internal and external sources. The candidate will also assist in the development of statistical models for functional analysis of RNAi screens related to cancer. A strong understanding of concepts related to creation and analysis of genetic networks is necessary. In addition, experience building genetic interaction databases in PostgreSQL, MySQL and DB2 is required.

The responsibilities include:
• Working within a Unix/Linux environment;
• Working with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams;
• Designing and developing novel bioinformatics platforms and backend databases;
• Automation of data analysis pipelines;
• Web-based development and cross-platform support;
• Functional analysis of genome-wide RNAi screens.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A PhD in computer science, computational biology, or engineering is required;
• At least 2 years of postdoctoral experience working with large-scale genome-wide data sets;
• More than 3 years experience in Bioinformatics;
• Experience in constructing and analyzing genetic networks from high-throughput screening is an asset;
• Demonstrated experience in software and database programming (R, SQL, Matlab, Perl, Java, C and C++);
• In-depth knowledge of computational algorithms in Bioinformatics (network clustering, sequence alignments, microarray analysis);
• Demonstrated experience in proteomics and biological network analysis;
• Experience in developing bioinformatics databases based on RDBMs;
• Experience with Unix/Linux;
• Experience in developing novel algorithms in Bioinformatics;
• Familiar with major bioinformatic tools and databases (Cytoscape, BLAST, GenBank, BioMart, BioGrid)
