Postdoctoral Fellow or Scientific Associate
The labs of Dr. Bradly Wouters (Ontario Cancer Institute) and Dr. Paul Boutros (Ontario Institute for Cancer Research) are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow or Scientific Associate to develop a comprehensive and innovative bioinformatics platform for the integration of multiple –omic datasets related to tumour microenvironment. This emerging and important area poses both biological and computational challenges. The successful applicant will be responsible for the analysis and integration of next-generation functional genomic and genomic datasets including RNA-Seq transcriptome, translatome, and ChIP-Seq datasets, along with patient-level clinical annotation, including prognosis and microenvironmental characteristics. Analysis of these data will be performed on cutting-edge IT infrastructure including a multi-petabyte storage system and a 3,000-core compute farm.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have:
• A PhD in computational biology, engineering, mathematics, computer sciences or molecular biology;
• Previous postdoctoral training in any of these fields is a definite asset;
• Strong statistics background, including survival analysis or Bayesian techniques;
• Strong experience in software and database programming (R, Perl, SQL);
• Good knowledge of biological sequence algorithmic and analysis tools;
• Strong knowledge of molecular biology. Knowledge of cancer biology is an asset;
• Team-player, interested in working in a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment with biologists, computer scientists, statisticians, and clinicans.
Cancer research is the priority at the Ontario Cancer Institute (OCI), one of three research institutes comprising the University Health Network. Researchers here employ state-of-the-art tools in genomics, proteomics, structural biology, molecular biology, biophysics and the behavioural sciences. With these tools they analyze cancerous cells at the molecular level; test gene and cellular therapies for cancer and other diseases; develop new technologies for diagnosing and treating cancer; determine the effects of diet and behaviour on cancer risks; and develop and test informatics tools for the large-scale analysis of patient populations.
The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is a new centre of excellence in cancer research located in the MaRS Centre in the Discovery District in downtown Toronto. Launched in December 2005, OICR is an independent research institute funded by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. OICR will address significant challenges in cancer research with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams. New discoveries to prevent, detect and treat cancer will be moved from the bench to practical applications in patients.
