Position: Web Developer – Clinician Oncology E-Learning

and Research Associate
Salary: Commensurate with level of experience
Hours: 35 Hrs/week
Status: Eight-Month Contract: Anticipated start date of May 2010

The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking an individual to participate in a project to help engineer an instructional design model across the internet for Clinician Oncologists in the topic area of cancer genomics and molecular oncology. The design model will enhance the current OICR information systems and web architecture with the addition of new functionalities to create an interactive learning environment for the next generation of clinician oncologists through interaction and media delivery. The model opens up new avenues for teaching complex skills which is popular in vocational and higher professional education.

The responsibilities include:
• Liaise with developers and stakeholders involved in other aspects of the project to achieve a comprehensive design model over the content of the website;
• Design, develop and build data models, web applications, web services, web modules, with user interfaces to improve the efficiency, usability, display, and the content delivery;
• Ensure the highest quality after thorough testing over security, browser compatibility and software code maintainability;
• Provide technical documentation, installation guides and other material to assist users in installing, configuring and using the software or its modules;
• Work within the team to help communicate the project delivery to its stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently enrolled in or completion of a university undergraduate degree with focus on Math, Computer Science, Engineering or Life Sciences; a combination of Computer Science and Life Sciences would be an asset;
• Advanced working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS;
• Must be comfortable as a developer using Java/PHP/SQL code, web tools, software tools and code frameworks; scripts and data formats. We are using CMS/DRUPAL, so this knowledge would be an asset;
•Must be able to work with Linux in a terminal including relevant system configuration ability over LAMP including extensions. Preferred experience includes MacOSX tools, please include relevant tools on your CV;
• Must be technically adept, fast-learning individual interested in Bioinformatics, Life Sciences, Cancer Genomics and Personalized Medicine; some knowledge and training in these areas would be an asset
• Must have graphical interface design experience, organizational and conceptual thinking skills;
• Strong interpersonal skills;
• High degree for attention to detail.

OICR is an innovative new cancer research institute located in the MaRS Centre in the Discovery District in downtown Toronto.
