The Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) is seeking a Quality Assurance (QA) Analyst. The QA Analyst, reporting to the Manager of Web Development, will be responsible for the maintenance of software quality for website development. Sites will include (but are not limited to): bioinformatics.ca, oicr.on.ca, icgc.org, wormbase.org, and reactome.org. The websites are designed as dynamic web applications that support programs and platforms for various initiatives to support the next generation of biological tools and databases. The QA Analyst will play a critical role in the timely delivery of OICR’s world-class websites. from
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Maintenance of a high-level of software quality of custom web-based and open-source software, participate in the discovery, implementation and deployment phases to understand functionality requirements as well as reliability, security and scalability compliance aims;
•Work on new and existing OICR-funded projects and with internal/external globally-dispersed teams for outreach and scientific discovery in OICR’s programs and platforms;
•Quality control on multiple platforms and operational environments and on a core-web application and web service framework; targeting multiple web-browsers and modern media devices;
•Provide systems/user/quality control documentation and media content to assist users in installing, configuring, and using software;
•Assist in building OICR best-practices for quality control and use/build modern tools for test automation, configuration, and software releases; and help to connect relevant sections to improve process efficiencies whenever possible;
•Provide support to ensure high-availability service levels for all users;
•Assist in research of user interfaces, to search for graphics and valuable internet services to improve the usability, display and content of all websites.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor or technical school degree in Computer Science, Science, or Software engineering related to the World Wide Web;
•Quality Assurance (or Developer) experience for interactive web/software applications; or similar experience and a highly accurate understanding of software;
•Knowledge to build automation tools in all areas systems, frameworks and databases;
•Detailed knowledge of web browser testing, web security testing, with the ability to diagnose problems within JavaScript, CSS and HTTP;
•Detailed-oriented and tidy with an ability to collect information and articulate issues, with the ability to collect business/system architecture inside a very fluid software life-cycle;
•Open minded and knowledgeable about limitations to open-source projects, with the ability to explore and discover information to work around those limitations;
•Capability of acquiring new knowledge and applying training to achieve practical objectives, with the ability to expand into release planning, systems-administration, and web design/programming;
•Technical knowledge of HTTP/CSS/JAVASCRIPT, Javascript/CSS; Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP.
•Able to deploy new websites and to test at a black-box functional components level;
•Knowledge and mastery of the following an asset: CMS/DRUPAL, PERL, JAVA, Flash, Flex, Data Mining, Data MashUp, MediaWiki, bioinformatics and life sciences in general, cancer genomics in specific;
•Strong written and oral communication, problem-solving and interpersonal skills;
•Very fast learner;
•Enthusiastic about and interested in science.
OICR is a new centre of excellence in cancer research located in the MaRS Centre in the Discovery District in downtown Toronto. Launched in December 2005, OICR is an independent research institute funded by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. OICR is addressing significant challenges in cancer research with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams. New discoveries to prevent, detect and treat cancer will be moved from the bench to practical applications in patients.
