Post-doctoral Position in Bioinformatics
****************************************************************************
A one-year post-doctoral position is available starting ASAP in Marseilles (Southern France) at the Institut Fédératif de Recherche(IFR)137. We are seeking candidates holding a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology or statistics to develop a newly funded project to conceive high throughout bioinformatics analyses in flow cytometry (InfoCyt project).
****************************************************************************
BACKGROUND
-----------------
Flow cytometry is an invaluable tool to study cellular interactions. Several of our research teams are involved in T and B cells understanding in immunological fundamental research while some others are interested in HIV and chronic leukemia diagnosis. Recent advances in multicolor flow cytometry yield instruments capable of measuring large numbers of parameters, which lead to very large amounts of data - only partially explored and analyzed due to the low throughput (i.e. manual) methods traditionally employed..
RESEARCH GOAL
--------------------
Research work concerns the design of a bioinformatics workflow to perform high throughput analysis of flow cytometry data. Methods have to cope with large amounts of data.
Specific goals are:
-Automated identification of cell population using clustering techniques
-Optimal matching of cell populations between samples
-Automated detection changes in cell population related to the experimental question
-Implement all developed algorithms in automated workflow
WORKING ENVIRONMENT, SALARY & BENEFITS
----------------------------------------------------------
The applicant will work as part of the Institut Fédératif de Recherche bioinformatics joint team. The IFR federates world-class research institutions such as the Centre d'Immunologie de Marseille-Luminy, the Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Marseille, and the Technological Advances for Genomics and Clinics lab. The position is initially fixed for 12 months with a net salary of €1960 per month, including social security and medical coverage.
PROFILE
----------
-A recent Ph.D. postdoctoral experience will be considered but is not mandatory.
-Proficiency in a programming language (Preferably Perl, Java C or R) is necessary. Strong skills in statistics, data mining and/or pattern recognition are a plus.
-Very good communication and presentation skills.
-Very good ability to collaborate in a highly multidisciplinary environment (immunologists and bioinformaticians across multiple institutions).
APPLICATION
-----------------
Please send a motivation letter describing your experience, a detailed CV including a list of publications, and names and addresses of two referents to granjeau_AT_tagc.univ-mrs.fr and ghislain.bidaut_AT_inserm.fr. Supplemental information can be found here:
