CBRAIN and GBRAIN are Pan-Canadian and International platforms for distributed processing, analysis, exchange and visualisation of brain imaging data. The middleware platform, renders the processing environment (hardware, operating systems, storage servers, etc...) transparent to a remote user.
Interaction with a standard web browser allows the users to apply complex algorithms “pipelines” to large datasets residing in remote locations using a combination of network available resources (such as small clusters, neuroimaging tools), databases and Compute-Canada's High Performance Computing Centers (HPCs).

In the context of GBRAIN, the platform has to accommodate for very large datasets of high resolution animal and human brains' scans. These images are transferred through high-bandwidth links from Germany, the U.S., South Korea and Canada and should enable resource-sharing among these international collaborators.
