Role Summary

Reporting to the Principal Investigator in the Terry Fox Laboratory (TFL) or designate, and working in conjunction with Principal Investigators within the BC Cancer Research Centre (BCCRC) and internationally, the Bioinformatic Specialist will perform duties in support of the development, collection and maintenance of software infrastructure to support flow cytometry analysis. Specifically, you will work with the GenePattern software development team to extend their infrastructure to support high throughput flow cytometry experiments.

Key Accountabilities
Manages the development and implementation of a flow cytometry client/server application [Java, Tomcat, MySQL & C++]. Duties will include development of requirements, identification of stakeholders, drafting proposal for undertaking the development of the software package and implementing the final plan as part of team.
Maintains software web site [Apache, HTML, PHP, FTP, Linux] and implements web-based interface [PHP].
Participates in organization of an international data sharing network.
Performs complex cluster analysis, data visualization and other bioinformatics analysis and writes code when required to support the analysis of complex data sets [Java, C].
Implements data standard exchange support within software tool [XML].
Reports regularly to the Principal Investigator on progress of projects/experiments,
Works and liaises with collaborating statisticians and performs complex statistical and data analysis.
Prepares a variety of reports and manuscripts.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Master’s program in a related discipline such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Genetics including a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology plus a minimum of five (5) years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the TFL principal investigators.

Bioinformatics software developer with experience with the programming languages highlighted above.
