Post-doctoral researcher for a whole genome study to detect methylation markers
We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher for a project aimed at detecting schizophrenia methylation markers. The project involves an array based whole genome investigation with 45 million probes measured in a large schizophrenia case-control sample. To eliminate false discoveries due to technical and sampling errors, we will follow up the most promising findings in a second schizophrenia cases-control sample using pyrosequencing.
The successful candidate will have a PhD / MD or equivalent degree in psychiatry, bioinformatics, genetics, statistics, or a related field. A strong interest in analyzing large-scale complex disease data sets is required.
The post-doc will be sited at VCU’s Center for Biomarker Research and Personalized Medicine (http://www.pharmacy.vcu.edu/biomarker/) and will work under the supervision of Drs. Van den Oord and Aberg. The project involves a close collaboration with Dr. Patrick Sullivan at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dr. Patrik Magnusson at the Karolinska institute in Sweden, and several external consultants. The position is initially for two years, will be highly interactive involving multiple faculty members, and is offering ample opportunities for publishing articles and career development.
All interested applicants should email a current resume and three (3) names and contact information of references to: Ms. Andrea M. Poyotte, apoyotte@vcu.edu
