Providing Web Servers and Training in Bioinformatics: 2010 Update on the Bioinformatics Links Directory

July 1st, 2010

With the addition of 115 new web servers and 7 updates from the recent release of the Nucleic Acids Research’s special Web Server Issue 2010, the Bioinformatics Links Directory has reached almost 1500 unique web servers, databases and resources for computational research in the life sciences. All links are freely accessible to the public, and may be browsed by biological category and research task subcategory.

As the Bioinformatics Links Directory continues to grow with these additions, training and educational tools to enable and empower a wider and more varied audience of users are becoming increasingly necessary. Various education ideas and initiatives that address the growing need for bioinformatic training are discussed. Among these initiatives are the links highlighted in the Bioinformatics Links Directory ‘Education’ category, which encompass upcoming workshops and courses as well as links to open access workshop material and self-directed tutorials. Community contributions to this and other categories are encouraged, and submissions or updates may be made through links[at]bioinformatics[dot]ca.
