The 2011 Bioinformatics Links Directory Update: More Resources, Tools and Databases and Features to Empower the Bioinformatics Community
The Bioinformatics Links Directory has undergone a major redevelopment to better facilitate communication of bioinformatics resources, tools and databases. Existing links are now characterized as resources, web server tools or databases. The July 2011 Web Server issue of Nucleic Acids Research adds an additional 78 web server tools and 14 updates to the directory, bringing the totals to 144 resources, 480 databases and 1250 web server tools to aid computational research in the life sciences. All links remain freely accessible to the public, and may be browsed by biological category and research task subcategory.
With this upgrade, link owners now have the opportunity to add useful content such as additional citations, documentation, use-case examples and related announcements to their link page such as release updates and scheduled maintenance times. With these and other new social media features, the Bioinformatics Links Directory is empowering the bioinformatics community to drive the continual development of this compendium of important bioinformatics resources, tools and databases to aid research. Community contributions to the Bioinformatics Links Directory are encouraged, and submissions or updates may be made through links[at]bioinformatics[dot]ca.
